“ The Apostle Peter explains Christian suffering: “Dear friends, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal that has come on you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. But rejoice inasmuch as you participate in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed when his glory is revealed. If you are insulted because of the name of Christ, you are blessed, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you. If you suffer, it should not be as a murderer or thief or any other kind of criminal, or even as a meddler. However, if you suffer as a Christian, do not be ashamed, but praise God that you bear that name. For it is time for judgment to begin with God’s household; and if it begins with us, what will the outcome be for those who do not obey the gospel of God? And, “If it is hard for the righteous to be saved, what will become of the ungodly and the sinner?” So then, those who suffer according to God’s will should commit themselves to their faithful Creator and continue to do good.”

Recently, Ukrainian President Zelensky visited the United States to help resolve the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, which was condemned by the White House. Jesus had just returned to his hometown and preached the gospel of the kingdom of God to his family and fellow villagers, but was driven away. The apostle Paul first went to the Jerusalem church and wanted to join the church and preach the gospel of the Lord, but was rejected and refused to recognize that he was a reborn, saved, and newly created person. Will you pray on the cross like Jesus described in Matthew 27:46: "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?"

Spiritual FOOD TODAY the Scripture we share is 1 Peter 4:12-19. Especially in the last two verses, the Apostle Peter summarizes the suffering of Christians. Intentionally speaking it is to reveal that "God Does Use Difficult Times to Bring Us Closer to Him." God loves us and He understands our sinful nature. God_ allows these things to happen in order to bring us closer to the Lord. He knows that by letting us experience failure, pain, and struggle, our faith will become stronger, closer to the Lord, and away from sin.

One pastor explained that, however, God will never force us to obey Him. God loves you and does not want you or anyone else to suffer, but we all have free will and life choices, and God will not interfere. As the Apostle Paul comforts us in Romans 8:28, "We know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose." Due to our human genetic sinfulness, some people will make good choices and some will make bad choices, but this does not mean that God does not love them, it just means that they made the wrong choices.

Another pastor further emphasized that while difficult times can make us feel exposed and unprotected, God often provides us with a safety net that is not dependent on our circumstances but entirely dependent on God. As Proverbs 18:10 says, "The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe."

In a column in Wells of Grace, Rev. Lettie Cowman and her contributor published a reversal Q&A on a similar theme of Christian suffering: "You feel that your situation seems very annoying and serious, and you don't understand why God treats you like this, but His way of dealing with you is absolutely right, and you will soon see His kindness. The place where you are is a stage, and you are performing God's glory, grace and power on the stage. He not only wants to perform salvation, but also let you learn lessons that cannot be forgotten, so that you can give new praises and be full of gratitude after the experience. May the Lord help us always remember that we are children of God and He is our Father in heaven. The righteous Father will never abandon His children, but will help him to the end, because Hebrews 12:11 tells us, "No discipline seems to be joyful for the time being, but painful; however, later on it produces the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it." In other words, in the end, God has reserved for you the hope and reward of eternal life so that you no longer have to worry.
