In Rev. Lettie Cowman’s column, Wells of Grace, I read a sharing during my devotional time where Rev. H. W. Smith quoted 1 Samuel 3:18 and talked about young Samuel hearing the voice of God calling him. His mentor, the prophet Eli, gave him a lesson about his mission. Eli said, “He is the LORD; let him do what is good in His eyes.”
The pastor went on to explain that if we see God in everything, God will give it His own color. Maybe the pain has not been eliminated and the situation has not changed, but if Christ, the Lord of our lives, is present in those sorrows and pains, then He is as the Psalmist firmly said in Psalm 32:7, “You are my hiding place; You will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance.” If we truly see God, we will be sure that His wisdom will not vanish, His strength will not fail, His love will not change, and He is the most severe. The place where our spiritual life benefits the most is when we are lost, sad, in pain, and fail, just as Job 1:21 quoted in “今日灵粮 Spiritual FOOD TODAY “says: " Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked I will depart. The LORD gave and the LORD has taken away; may the name of the LORD be praised." Only when we see God in all things and obey God's will can we love those things that bring harm and trouble, understand that they are just tools for God to accomplish His loving and wise will, and stop all complaints and rebellious thoughts. The Lord is our hiding place, God will protect us from troubles, and pray that the Holy Spirit will lead us to peace and rest.
