Cast Your Burdens on God and Live in Rest in Christ

And Jesus said, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”

When You Believe in God but Still Worry All the Time”。

During my devotional time, in Rev. Lettie Cowman's column "Wells of Grace", I read a pastor's sharing, citing Philippians 4:6, talking about how we Christians should not worry about anything. However, many Christians on the contrary live in constant anxiety, and some are even miserable. How to find complete rest in the daily busyness is worth exploring. The pastor explained, let's first look at what is the use of worry? Worry has never made anyone strong, nor has it helped anyone to follow God's will, nor has it saved anyone from difficulties. Worry only destroys a useful and beautiful life. Anxiety, worry, and worry are all forbidden by the Lord. Jesus said in Matthew 6:25 "Do not worry about what you will eat, what you will drink, or what you will wear." He did not mean that we should not think ahead and live without plans or rules. He meant that we should not worry.

Craig Groeschel, Christian Atheist in his article asks us why, “When You Believe in God but Still Worry All the Time.” He then thoughtfully explains this and warns us to be aware that worrying indicates that we are not willing to let God handle certain things - at least not in God’s way, and certainly not in His timing. Matthew 6:27 poses a practical question: “Which of you by worrying can add a single hour to his stature?” He wants to know how many hours does worrying take away from our lives? More seriously, worrying is essentially a sin of not trusting God’s promises and power. It is choosing to dwell on and think about the worst-case scenario. It is a belief in bad things, not a belief in God. 2 Timothy 1:7 says, “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, of love, of a sound mind.” In this verse, we could just as easily translate “fear and fear” as “anxiety, nervousness, and worry.” Fear is not from God. It is a tool of the devil to distract us from our true purpose for being here. Therefore, “Cast Your Burdens on God and Live in Rest in Christ”! For Jesus comforts us in Matthew 11:28, as quoted in our Scripture “今日灵粮 Spiritual FOOD TODAY”: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” To conclude our sharing today, Rev. Lettie Cowman in her column Wells of Grace quoted Numbers 14:29-30 to remind us how God would punish His chosen people, the Israelites, by not letting them enter the Promised Land because many of them complained about being left to wander in the wilderness and eat manna for too long. God punished them, saying: “Whoever murmurs against me shall not enter the land which I swore to give you…” It can be seen that worry deprives a person of all ambition, locks up all his abilities, and causes a person to fall into spiritual paralysis. However, when we cast our burdens on His protection, we will have joy, and joy makes the work go smoothly. When we have the wings of joy, our work will be completed quickly. Depression clips those wings and makes us like the Egyptians whose wheels fell off and made it difficult to move forward. Let us pray that God will have mercy on us and strengthen our faith, as the psalmist in Psalm 46:1 assures us, that God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in time of trouble.
