The Power of Our Words

johnking9999

Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.

Rev. Nicky Gumbel once preached about the importance of one's words in communication. It is not how much you say, but what you say and why you say it. The Apostle James emphasized this when he said that the tongue, though a small part of the body, has great power, as he said in James 3:5. In our 今日灵粮 Spirit FOOD TODAY and sharing today, we will focus again on this theme, how words can exert great power for both good and evil. Every day, we may consciously or unconsciously use our words to do two big things, either destroying relationships with others or building good relationships with others.

Today's scripture quotes Ephesians 4:29, which says that we should not let any corrupting words come out of your mouth, but only those that are good for edification, so that they may benefit those who hear. As Proverbs 10:19 states, “In the abundance of words there is no escape from sin, but a man of wisdom will keep silent.”

In a sermon on “What God Says About the Power of Our Words,” Melaina Jaeger and Makayla Czeder asked, “Did you know that our words have the power of life and death, as Proverbs 18:21 also states? Proverbs 11:9 further states that “our words have more influence than we sometimes think.” They further gave examples, “Have you ever had a teacher, parent, or child say something hurtful in school that weighed heavily on your heart and mind? “Perhaps you have spent years thinking you were not smart because of something a teacher said in the past.

Therefore, we must always remember the words God says and teaches in the Bible, combined with the previous sermons in “The Power of Our Words” sharing, and as Proverbs 18:21 reminds us, we must understand the consequences of the words that come out of our mouths, and: “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.” Pray that as followers of the Christian faith, we will be examples to others in the words that flow from our mouths. Let us be examples of Christ that the world observes - when they are with us, they will feel God’s love for them because what we say to them always contains spiritual life. Let us fill our loving hearts with God’s words so that the words we speak can reflect the love we give to them as Christians and convey God’s righteousness and peace in return to them.
