Is Human Destiny the Same as Gods Will? ”But whether I live or die is not important, for I don’t esteem my life as indispensable. It’s more important for me to fulfill my destiny and to finish the ministry my Lord Jesus has assigned to me, which is to faithfully preach the wonderful news of God’s grace.”
Many theologians and pastors have tried to answer our question about “is man’s destiny the same as God’s will.” Many pastoral writers and authors have concluded in their sermons and answered, “… No, man’s destiny is not the same as God’s will …” They go on to explain, “A person’s destiny is everything that has happened to them in their lifetime, including what will happen in the future. God’s will is related to the salvation of all believers and is not predestined for each individual. God’s will can change the course of destiny.”
Therefore, many believe that both God’s sovereignty and man’s free will are real and that humans are responsible for their actions. Others say that man’s will can be guided by God-given wisdom to fit God’s will. These pastors believe that these are two sides of the same coin. Therefore, to be faithful to the testimony of the Bible, we must acknowledge both sides of the coin.
Because God’s sovereignty is absolutely faithful and can change man’s destiny, as the Bible says in 2 Timothy 2:21, those who serve God are like precious vessels that can be used for God’s special purposes. The scripture says that those who have cleansed themselves from evil will be called and ready to be used for every good work. The metaphor of leaders as useful vessels refers to people who are receptive.
One pastor even used another simple way to distinguish between the human will and the will of God. That is, "God's will usually costs you something in the moment, but brings great rewards later. It fills you up from the inside out." Our will often leads us to take shortcuts that bring us instant gratification, but cost us dearly later.
So the passage we quote in "今日灵粮 Spiritual FOOD TODAY" is to illustrate this point. The Apostle Paul was speaking to the elders of the church in Ephesus in Miletus. He had told them that the Holy Spirit urged him to return to Jerusalem, despite the persecution that awaited him there. Here, he explains why he was so willing to obey. He recognized that his personal destiny in God's calling was to be a precious vessel of God, especially to fulfill the mission of preaching the gospel to the Gentiles, and said, "It is not important whether I live or die, because I do not value my life. What is more important to me is to fulfill my destiny and complete the ministry that the Lord Jesus has given me, which is to faithfully preach the wonderful message of God's grace." Pray that we can all follow in the footsteps of the Apostle Paul and focus on following the will of God guided by the Holy Spirit, so that we can walk in the path of righteousness taught by our Savior Jesus, and our destiny is to receive the crown of eternal life, which ultimately awaits us, although Paul and especially we have already noticed this. "The will of God usually costs us something at the time, but it will pay a huge reward for our eternal life later."
