In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith — of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire — may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed".

The scripture shared in 《今日灵粮 Spiritual FOOD TODAY》 is 1 Peter 1:6-7. It clarifies a common theological viewpoint in our faith tradition: God's Word, commandments, and promises in the Bible, as well as His actions on earth, are entirely consistent with His nature, possess inherent credibility, and He always keeps His promises. 1 Peter 1:7 states that trials are meant to refine our faith, making it more precious than gold, so that Jesus Christ may be praised, glorified, and honored at His second coming. Therefore, in the preceding passage, 1 Peter 1:6 also points out that Christians should "rejoice greatly" even in trials, because they have eternal hope. These passages assure us that in difficult times, God's Word reveals its truth and reliability, giving us strength for the future, and refining us like silver until His promises are fully fulfilled in His perfect time, just as Psalm 66:10 describes how God tests and refines people like alchemy.

In their "Holy Word Today" column, Pastor Bob Gass and Mrs. Debbie Gass, in a sermon entitled "Hold on to God's Promises," quoted Psalm 105:19 to reveal how God tests and refines our faith through trials, a process vividly depicted in the Old Testament story of Joseph.

Pastor Gass went on to explain and assure us that no matter what difficult times we face, God's word proves its truth and reliability. He strengthens us, prepares us for the future, and refines us like silver in fire until His promises are fully fulfilled in His perfect time. Using the story of Joseph as an example, he used a question-and-answer format to illustrate Joseph's various experiences and difficulties in life, such as: (1) When Joseph's brothers stripped him of the colorful robes symbolizing his father's favor, what made him feel safe and secure? It was the promises God had given him; (2) When he was thrown into a dry well and sold into slavery, what made him feel safe and secure? It was God's promise to him; (3) What made him feel safe and secure when his fellow prisoners and wine servers did not mention him to Pharaoh? It was God's promise to him. Psalm 105:17-21 describes Joseph, who was sold into slavery and bound in chains until his prophecy was fulfilled and the word of the Lord tested him. The king of Egypt sent men to release him, and the leaders of the people also released him and appointed him to rule the nation and over all things.

God's word stands the test of time, but to fulfill His promise, you must remain steadfast in the face of trials. You will be tested by the attitudes and actions of your family, and by the betrayal of those you trust. You will be tested in adversity and hardship, situations that seem contrary to God's promise. You see, God values your character more than your comfort. Psalm 105:19 says that the word of the Lord tested Joseph's character until his dream came true. Why undergo these trials? To test your faithfulness. If you can prove your reliability, Habakkuk 2:3 confirms that you can trust God's promises: "...for they will surely come..." Therefore, hold fast to the promises God has given you.

Today, spiritual nourishment and sharing spiritual food emphasize the biblical theme that trials are purposeful, beneficial to spiritual growth, test the authenticity of faith, and ultimately fulfill God's plan for each of us who love God and firmly believe in Christ the Savior.
