Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. Anyone who does wrong will be repaid for their wrongs, and there is no favoritism.

The scripture shared in 《今日灵粮 Spiritual FOOD TODAY》 is Colossians 3:23-25. This passage explains how and why we should diligently serve others with love and kindness. In life, God may call us to serve others both inside and outside the church, primarily to demonstrate His love and to glorify Him through our good deeds, following the example of Jesus. This service is a natural expression of our faith and a way to build up the community of believers and reach out to the world to share and spread the gospel.

Jesus came into the world to serve, setting an example for believers. As recorded in Matthew 20:28, He gathered His disciples and followers and said to them, “Even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” The Apostle Paul followed this example, reiterating in Philippians 2:3-5 the encouragement to respect others and to have the spirit of Christ Jesus in interpersonal relationships.

Serving is a way of expressing love and a way of obeying God's law. Let us take the example of the Apostle Paul's ministry! In Galatians 5:13, he again calls believers to serve one another with humble love. Good works should lead others to God, to praise Him, and to glorify Him. Paul further elucidates this point in Colossians 3:23-25, which we will share today. This passage encourages us to strive to work for the Lord, because we know that service is ultimately for Christ. God has given believers the gift of serving the body of Christ and the wider community, thereby building the church and establishing a new world of salvation for humanity. This new world, this new heaven and new earth, is part of God's ultimate plan of salvation, and as the Apostle John prophesied in Revelation, Jesus' second coming from heaven is to return and rule this new world — the new heaven and new earth — as revealed by the Apostle John in Revelation 21:1: "... for the first heaven and earth have passed away, and the sea is no more."

In their " Holy Word Today " column, Pastor Rev. Bob & Mrs. Debby Gass published an article titled " Learn lessons from Joseph, Jesus' father on earth," quoting Matthew 1:20 to point out that as believers, if we are called to serve God, we must practice faith in our service, even in the most difficult circumstances. They vividly illustrated this process using the story of Joseph, Jesus' father, in the New Testament. Pastor Bob explained that Joseph's life reveals the fulfillment of God's mission, will, and promises. Christians must always remember the necessity of faith. Matthew 1:20 records that while Joseph was considering this matter, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, "Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife, for what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit." Joseph initially intended to secretly divorce Mary, but later, because the Holy Spirit worked within him, God revealed His plan to him. He immediately obeyed God's will, fulfilling God's promised plan of redemption for mankind. Therefore, serving and obeying God's will brings inner peace, enables us to discern right from wrong, and pleases God. When the Holy Spirit works in your service and ministry, you will also have greater wisdom to become a vessel for the Lord, spreading the gospel.

Therefore, we must “understand that God calls you to serve those within and outside the church.” Paul's sharing of Colossians 3:23-25 in 《今日灵粮 Spiritual FOOD TODAY》 reminds us that in service or ministry, "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. Anyone who does wrong will be repaid for their wrongs, and there is no favoritism." Happy New Year to all!
