;The wise King Solomon in the Old Testament described and taught the next generation in his book of Proverbs. This also means that in the New Testament era, after we are saved by faith and become new creations, we now need to live a holy, joyful, and forgiven life in order to receive the joy of God's salvation and the hope of eternal life He will give us in the future. His proverbs exhort believers like this: “A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.”
The verse shared by 《Spiritual FOOD TODAY今日灵粮》is Proverbs 17:22. Many Bible scholars agree with what Proverbs 17:22 says: "A merry heart does good as medicine, but a broken spirit dries up the bones." … “This verse emphasizes the close connection between our spiritual and emotional states and physical health. A heart that is willing to forgive and love others is a source of healing and vitality; while sadness, revenge or negative emotions will have a negative impact on physical and mental health, especially spiritual health, and may even lead to crime. “
In the "Pure Joy" column, Pastor Rev. John Piper published a sermon titled "When Other Christians Hurt You", quoting Romans 8:1 to remind believers and deepen their thinking, emphasizing that when other Christians hurt you, the Apostle Paul exhorted us to forgive others in this verse because "there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus." This verse emphasizes what is the root cause of our not holding grudges against repentant brothers and sisters?
Pastor Rev. John Piper goes on to explain that if we are seriously offended by a brother or sister, our indignation will not disappear just because the offender is a Christian. In fact, we may feel even more betrayed, and a simple "I'm sorry" cannot make up for the pain and embarrassment of the offense.
But in this case, we are dealing with Christians, and God's promised righteous anger does not apply, as Romans 8:1 quoted above states: "There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus." The Apostle Paul further says in 1 Thessalonians 5:9: "For God has not appointed us (all Christians) to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ."
So where do we find assurance? -- the conviction that justice will be done, and the assurance that Christianity is not a mockery of the seriousness of sin. The answer lies in looking to the cross of Jesus Christ. All the evil that believers have done to us is vindicated in the death of Jesus Christ, implicit in the simple yet stunning fact that Jesus died for our sins, as predicted in Isaiah 53:6 and described in 1 Corinthians 15:3. That is, all the sins of God's people were laid on Jesus.
Christ's suffering is God's compensation for the harm we have suffered because of Christians. Therefore, Christianity does not take sin lightly or make it worse. On the contrary, Christianity takes the sins that hurt us very seriously; to correct these sins, God gave his only Son Jesus Christ to suffer far more than we can ever pay back for the suffering of others.
Today's spiritual food shares "Forgiving others for what they have done to you is the beginning of your joy." It's hard to say, but if you want to get valuable results, you must endure hardships and tolerate others. There is an old Chinese saying that can be expressed as "You can't get tiger cubs from a tiger's den" or "You reap what you sow." As King Solomon exhorted us in Proverbs 17:22, "A merry heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit dries up the bones.” Forgiving Others for How They Have Offended You is the Beginning of Your Joy.
