【068】今日灵粮 Spiritual FOOD TODAY： 新天新地之门外 Outside the Gates of New Heaven and New Earth

Let us all understand that the Apostle John is considered the last person to receive revelation in the Book of Revelation, although he is not the last messenger in the chain of divine message transmission — may we all remain faithful in our faith and know that our Savior Jesus is the ultimate source, God's final messenger and revealer. Revelation 22:16 confirms that John was Jesus' messenger, where Jesus says, "I, Jesus, have sent my angels to tell you these things for the churches." This further confirms that John was commissioned by Jesus to convey the truth of His coming at the Second Coming and humanity's salvation through faith in Him. Therefore, John is the last person in this chain of message transmission entrusted with recording the final revelation, but remember that this message originates from God and was delivered to John through His Son, our Savior Jesus Christ, and the angels.

The scripture shared in *今日灵粮 Spiritual FOOD TODAY * is Revelation 22:12-16. In this passage, Jesus invites and warns the apostle John to inform the churches and believers, prophesying His second coming, which will provide a new heaven and new earth, a new Jerusalem, for the saved to dwell in, and for the unsaved to receive punishment for their sins. Since the new heaven and new earth that Jesus promised has already come, filled with purity and holiness, and evil and sinners have been cast into the lake of fire to suffer eternal punishment, how could he insert a passage from Revelation 22:15, especially in the middle of the passage we are quoting today? In the passage we are quoting today, Jesus clearly invites and warns the apostle John to inform the churches and believers, prophesying His second coming, and for the new Jerusalem in the new heaven and new earth, which will bring eternal life to the saved and punish the unsaved with the lake of fire. This seems to contradict the passage in Revelation 22:15 — where "outside" refers to sinners — but this does not mean that sinners will remain on the new earth. In fact, as the Broadman Bible Commentary points out, "outside" does not refer to the wicked lingering outside the city walls ... but rather to their eternal inability to enter the holy city. This passage emphasizes being excluded from the holy city, not their continued presence within it.

Revelation 20:11-15 states that the New Jerusalem will come after the Last Judgment, at which time all those whose names are not written in the Lamb's Book of Life will be cast into the lake of fire, the "second death" mentioned in Revelation 21:8. This is the final and eternal destruction of sin and sinners. The Greek word " ἔξω exo" (meaning "outside") means "outside," "away from," or "excluded." It does not imply that sinners will linger near the city gates. Rather, it contrasts those excluded from the holy city and eternal life with those who are accepted. Thus, the stark contrast in Revelation 22:15 is striking: the righteous are accepted in, while the unrepentant are forever excluded and ultimately destroyed. The new heaven and new earth are truly sinless; the “outside” is not a transitional place, but a place of final separation from God — eternal death, not just eternal torment.

This verse follows the promise in Revelation 22:14, which blesses those who “wash their garments,” signifying redemption, granting them the right to enjoy the fruit of the tree of life. Verse 15 contrasts this with the earlier promise — a warning to those who refuse cleansing. In short, Revelation 22:15 does not imply that sin or sinners will still exist in the new creation. Rather, it clearly declares that the unrighteous will be eternally imprisoned “outside”, in another word in the lake of fire, never to enter the holy city.
