The apostle Paul taught the believers and brothers and sisters in the church, especially his beloved disciple son, to encourage us to “Read and Apply the Teachings of the Bible into Our Lives.” He said that what we have learned and are convinced of, let it remain in our hearts; for we know that we have learned it from Paul and our pastors, and we must understand the meaning of the Bible, just as Paul told his disciple Timothy and us likewise, this Bible can make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus, saying: “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”」
This morning in "圣经日日行We Devote ", I read the sharing of " How to Read the Bible " written by Pastor Rev. Nicky Gumbel. Although Pastor Gumbel did not quote any specific verses, Hebrews 4: 12 tells us that the Bible is the word of God and is of great importance to the believers’ living and teachings in staying away from sin and being saved. The verse reminds us that the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, of joints and marrow, and even the thoughts and intentions of the heart All can be discerned. This is what the theme of "今日灵粮 Spiritual FOOD TODAY " is about to share. We understand the importance of reading the Bible daily, but we must, " Read and Apply the Teachings of the Bible into Our Lives."
Pastor Gumbel went on to explain: When trying to understand how to read the Bible, the Bible reminds us that we do have three helpers. (1) The Help of the Holy Spirit: The apostle Paul tells us in his 1 Corinthians 2: 2-16 that “we have the work and guidance of the Holy Spirit,” especially in verses 9-11, which illustrate so that we know how to deal with others. in line with God’s will, and knowing the deep things of God through the Holy Spirit; (2) The Participation in the Church: Paul went one step further and said, “We have the teaching and assistance of the church.” If you think the Holy Spirit only speaks to you, you are too proud. The Holy Spirit has spoken to all the God's people, and He still does so today. Therefore, in Ephesians 3: 18, Paul hopes that the believers in the church in Ephesus can "understand with all the saints how long and wide and high and deep is the love of Christ"; (3) Finally, the Ability to Reason: The author of Romans 14: 5 also wrote this way, saying that God will give us the ability to think and reason, so he encouraged Christians, and saying: "Let each of you be firm in your opinions in your heart" and not judge one another. We must pursue things to get along with each other in harmony, and we must build up each other's virtues to please God and things that please Him.
Pastor Gumbel continued and reminded us that when interpreting the Bible, we need to ask ourselves three questions: (1) What is written in this passage? The Old Testament was written in Hebrew and Aramaic, and the New Testament was written in Greek. Modern translations strive to be faithful to the original text, so we can study it with confidence; (2) What does this passage mean? To answer this question, we must first ask ourselves: What is the genre of this passage? Is it historical narrative, poetry, prophecy, revelation, law, wisdom, or gospel? Each of the passages shared today has a different genre; we need to study different genres of passages in different ways. Next, think about what this passage meant to its readers at the time. How would they understand it? The context must be understood consistently, and then think: "Will what happens next allow me to interpret this passage from a new perspective?" For example, how does the return of Jesus help me understand the Old Testament? (3) What does this passage have to do with my life? We must, "Read and Apply the Teachings of the Bible into Our Lives." Otherwise, reading the Bible becomes an academic activity, or just like reading a historical story and philosophically. Happy Friday everyone, have a Merry Christmas and Celebration over the weekend, and may you have a Blessed New Year!
When all was said and done, "今日灵粮 Spiritual Food TODAY" would like to quote Psalm 1: 1-3 and urge each of us to live in the love of the Lord, pray, encourage and care for each other. In the Old Testament, God taught His people that one person's choices will determine the direction and outcome of our lives. Pray that God will help us find time to read the teachings of all verses in each book of the Bible. The ancient psalmists in the Old Testament, when they wrote a series of psalms, even from the very beginning of the first psalm, they already encouraged us to understand the meaning of each verse and apply it to our daily life when reading the Bible, and to know what is in God’s word. teaching and application; because the apostle Paul in the New Testament said the same thing to his disciple Timothy and later to us as modern believers, the Bible is inspired by God and can teach, rebuke, and correct people, teaching people to learn righteousness is beneficial. Pray that God will strengthen our faith so that we can “Read and Apply the Teachings of the Bible into Our Lives.” Therefore, the verses in Psalm 1 that we quoted in the conclusion, with the first three verses from the beginning of this psalm are warning us, as well as encouraging us, saying, " Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the LORD (Texts from God’s Word in the Bible), and who meditates on his Law Day and night. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither — whatever they do prospers." Pray in the name of the Lord, Amen!
